Default Rear air bag replacement

I replaced my rear air bags this weekend. Pretty straight forward and I think a bit easier than the fronts. With the rear wheels on ramps I had enough room to sit up and see the upper hardware although I spent a lot of time wrenching while laying on my back.

Just like the fronts, it is a filthy knuckle busting job. I soaked everything with almost a full can of PB Blaster the day before which surely helped but the air stems had those awful low-profile locking nuts. Those things are my nemesis and one of them sent me to the ER for a couple of stitches when the 1 1/16” wrench slipped while I was pulling hard.

Same procedure that I used on the front. Manually moved the height control valve arm to inflate the bags on one side to full height and then put a shorty jack on top of the axle to spread it a little more. After removing the hardware and air line I was able to compress the bag by hand and remove it. Did one side at a time and didn’t have to remove anything for access except the ride control rods.
I got the bags from Michigan Truck Spring for $114 each with free shipping. My rears are Firestone W01-358-9039. I’m done with air bags on this coach! This week I’m having the local shop replace my rear brake cans, hoses, and slack adjusters. All together it took about 7 or 8 hours but I did it over several days.

That's quite a shiner! You marked a hard dirty job off the list though.
