Default My new 87 FC

I picked up my 87 FC in Bisbee last Saturday. The wife and I drove it to Q14 and met some great WOG members and then headed home. It made it the nearly 800 miles with only the rear axle temp gauge going out 100 miles from home.

I drove 3 hours to Santa Maria, CA today to get it to a shop that handles big rigs and motorhomes and felt comfortable working on this bus. I have a big desert race event to get to in a couple weeks and need to get my jeep prepped so I bit the bullet to get it serviced by someone else.

The plan so far is:
Replace all fluids
Replace all coolant/heater hoses including the gen
Service the gen
Inspect why the rear 2 propane furnaces are not working
Inspect why the lift pump suddenly got noisy.

Not looking forward to that bill.

Congratulations Matt. Love our 87 FC and am sure you will love yours.
Don't be afraid of the propane furnaces. I had all 3 of ours apart. Rebuilt one and had to replace 2 due to water damage. ( looks like wind blown rain into the exhaust ) they hadn't been used in years.
I found the new ones on ebay for $ 225.00 ea (they were asking $275.00 and accepted my offer ) I believe they had more. New old stock.

Matt,
It just dawned on me that the propane heaters don't work unless the LP heat switch on the dash by the steering is on.

I did learn that at Q. The front definitely works. The back definitely does not. The middle was iffy. On those ones you bought does the whole unit come out?

Matt,
One of my propane heaters didn’t work either. I took it out, and after testing, found that the circuit control board was bad. It cost me $90 for a new ignition board. While it was out, I cleaned and blew out all of the dust and crud. It works like a champ now.
