Exclamation ONAN gas GEN.

I almost have it ! But I found out on this trip the gen will not start until I go out and hold the gov linkage to keep it running until it is warms up. Then it runs good as long as you like. Does anyone know what needs adjusting to keep it running when cold. I put on a new chock and fuel pump a few months ago and at that time it ran well. I do have the books and will go read them again and try a figure it out.

Sounds like the choke is having problems or isn't adjusted correctly.

Does sound like a choke issue.. I've found a tremedous amount of help and documentation here;

I'm assuming you have the 12.5KW 4cyl air cooled gas generator? If so I should have some good documentation for you.

Hey Mark,

I've been trying to get access to my valves. Seems hard starting is one of the symthoms of out of tollerance valve lash. Since you cannot access the valves and there is no slide out I had to completely remove the genset to adjust the valves.

I hope I do not need to do that now! I Will have to remove another gen. set I have in the 69. My 78 has the 6.5K air cooled ONAN. I made a small adjustment to the chock when we got home and It started right up. So it looks like I should go through the chock and governor adjustments again. Just to be sure the voltages are right and try it on a cold morning.
