Default R12 R134A Conversion

OK... My 91 PT still uses R12 in the dash air and I can no longer get it (even in Mexico). I looked around the Forum and have not seen anything on the cost and other issues assocated with a conversion to R134A. If I missed it it pleas re-direct me, I know some of you have had this done....

A quick check on Freeze 12 .... one issue is on some systems it needs to go in as a gas and others require it to be added as a liquid after an evacuation.
How do you tell what is needed for a system like mine?

It doesn't look too hard here. I would think most Auto parts places would sell a kit, but I don't know for sure.

They even have R12 it appears. I would bet it cost a pretty penny though.

I got extremely lucky last year. A fellow in our car club was selling his deceased father's A/C stuff. It included gauges, hoses, all kinds of adapters, 2 (16 oz.) & 17 (12 oz.) cans of R12. Everything for $150. I was all over it like stink on dung.
Both my Bird and Zimmer use R12

Hi Mark--

They way I've heard it, manufacture of R12 in the US is no longer legal, but servicing it is, for a certified tech or shop. Cost of service probably follows the cost of conversion with new A/C, might not be economically sensible for you.

The Camping World in Tucson might know of a place that still does it, if Arizona doesn't have their own stricter policy about R12.

Just an idea, don't get your hopes up

R134 has always ISSUES when replacing R12. Fittings change and system clean

Anyone here use Freeze 12 besides me? For me I just put it.

I always put in a little can of Freeze 12 lube too.

At swapmeets here I see R12. A dealer friend told me it's hard to sellfor stupid money cause folks use Freeze 12
