It all depends on which horsepower unit you are talking about. Anywhere from 6.5 to 8 mpg should be expected. As with any bird it also depends on how heavy your foot is in the throttle. At 62 - 65 mph I have measured an average of 7+ mpg, under 60 it will come up but not much and it does not matter if I'm towing my jeep or not.

My recent 6000 mile trip from here to the west coast through the western mountains into Canada, we averaged 6.4 pulling our Liberty.

I don't drive fast my foot is light. I get 8-9 on the flat, a little better in town. Climbing hills is a different matter......

7 with a turbo, 8 on the NA. Didn't think the decimals really mattered here.

I also get 1200 miles per quart of oil.

I get 8 with a 250 turbo in an FC35 towing. I got close to 9.5 on a 78 FC33 NA towing. My FC35 average is over the life of ownership, well over 40k miles. Sometimes I get 8.5, other times 6 or 7. Depends on many factors, speed being one.

I owned a 31 ft NA and it would get about 10 if you stayed at 55. If you pushed it to 65 which was about max it would drop to 7.5 or 8. Not bad considering. I figure 6.5 with my PT running the generator a good bit. Actually I don't worry about the mpg, it's miles per dollar that counts and right not it's not far off $1:00 per mile figuring fuel, oil and road tolls. That's what I figure when planning a run.

After many thousands of miles I average 7mpg in my 3208NA. I just completed a 1,000 mile run up to Durango, Co towing a Kia Soul. With all the climbing and pushing 70 anytime I could I just averaged 6.8mpg.

Here is a pdf file about the CAT 3208 that may answer further questions that you may have including fuel mileage.
