Default Painting a PT

Folks;

I am considering buying a PT which will need repainting.

Anyone had one painted? What company's or shops do it?

Any thought or knowledge on cost. Any comments would be appreciated.

Bob

Call Dick Cahill at StarJet - http://starjetbuspainting.com/index.shtml 614-488-6764

Price will be dependent on how much prep work is needed, which is where most of the time is spent.
I had my '83 completely repainted there, and just got done having some touch-up work done there on the BMC.

Prices may have gone up, but two years ago, Dick at Starjet quoted me about 6-7K for a complete repaint on a 40 ft PT, including prep.

I am with woody
I spent 7,000.00 on paint
medium grade paint, top grade Clear could have spent a lot more
the total value I had in the Entire Project was 14,000.00
I dont know how you could paint a 40 footer for 6-7 thousand
Actually I do know but you would not like it

Coachworx quoted me $23,000 to paint my 40'. I have decided a little faded paint is not too bad.

That is insane!

Stephen - how can the do it for 6-7K? Easy. For one, they are a large dealer and buy in quantity. You and Woody bought supplies for one project, as we all know, buy in bulk and much cheaper. Second, they do this as their living, doing it on the side always takes longer.

Won't like it? Ask Buckeye Dan how happy he was with his work, or anyone that saw his bus and he quality of the work.

I have no opinion on what is a fair price but I can see how prices are all over the map. Most of this is time plus materials so if you want the "best" it's going to be really expensive. Cutting corners would certainly reduce the price but is it ever wise to do a compromised job? Personally I am particular and unable to do a paint job on my own. As a result with so many really nice clean coaches out there for sale it wouldn't make sense for me to buy one needing paint. If you can DIY and are so inclined to do so I can see how you could save some pretty nice money painting one yourself. You can't make your own tires or batteries but if it ONLY needs paint and you can do it (and want to) this I could see. Now if it needs paint and a bunch of other self I'd walk..

Actually the year I painted the Bus
the total paint expenditures for the shop were about 300,000 now that is buying in quantity
75,000.00 in masking supplies which includes tape paper safety supplies
175,000.00 in sandblasting supplies to include sand soda more supplies
and I was doing it as a living in a shop that was 30,000 sq feet plus blast hut 3000 sq feet
we had 2 scroll compressors 1 100 hp 1 75 hp Plus spot compressors
Mostly a 24 hour a day operation
anything else???
