Default roof modification

I just drove back from florida and had an idea I would like to submit to the group. I have a 93 Bluebird WB and had an idea on way home (700 plus miles) since the clear coat was faded and needed help why not go with a truck liner finish. I would think that by pulling up the walkways and placing longer screws back in the holes, I could put a 20 year coat on the roof that would add some more durability. Does anyone have any thoughts on this ??? I would love to hear any feedback...JOE sends

Thanks Randy

The roof is Black and draws alot of heat. The clearcoat is pretty much gone too... I read in the paperwork that the roof was suposed to be a lighter color. I think that keeping the rails black and making the roof a much lighter color will make a difference. I spoke to Tommy and he said that you can walk anywhere on roof. do you hold the same opinion ? I would like to pull the two deck mats and have a guy prep and spray the roof but am such a cherry wanted to ask the wiser ones...Bottom line--can you walk on any part of roof ? I am looking to also put a solar panel on roof because I have to put in lot unpluggd any thoughts ???TKS JOE sends

walk on the roof? hahaa! you can hold a square dance on the roof of a bird!
yes,the roof of a bird is very strong,i hauled a honda 90 motorcyle on the roof one time. (thats along story).
most times the top is silver,on a black coach.
I'm not so sure i would pull the aluim plates off the roof to paint it,but to bed line it maybe i would.
heres something to think about, all the cars and trucks at Dish Network in denver have the roofs and hoods and decklids line Xed. (bed liner)
they do this to help prevent hail damage and because the clear coat on GM vans and pickups had a bad habit of peeling off.

Joe,
The bedliner idea is good. Just shop around for price and warranty. See if someone has a portable machine(my son does that, but not portable). They could come to you. If not, they need a building tall enough to fit you in. Also, watch how they mask(wrap) the
bus. Be careful of overspray. Some places even have colors, so you don't have to have black.

I am lucky to work with a guy who owns a vortex shop. I will be talking to him next week. I will post pics of before and after for everyone to evaluate...JOE sends

Careful of the durability of lighter colours they have a tendency to chalk or fade nothing to do with the wear ability but it looks bad

Joe,

You will notice that I have moved the three posts by you and Randy discussing the location of the 2nd Alternator and use of Solar panels over to a new thread in the Electrical sub-forum under a new title Solar Panels for storage use and 2nd Alternator Location

I did this so that those topics will be separated from the roof coating question so that they both will not get blended into one thread and the information can be found easier in the future.

John

Good idea.. I am soo green I bring up questions that are not related to each other. I blame it on A.D.D. but no luck with a diagnosis so I just keep going from one shiny object to the next...JOE sends
