Question 87 FC Generator

I have a few questions about getting my mind set on R&R'ing the Onan Genset in my coach sometime early next year.

I've spoken with Bill Pape on the subject and he referred me to his write up on the old forum. Thanks Bill for this. Looks like I'll have my hands full once I begin (and filthy too!).

I was reading a brochure from 1987 on the Wanderlodge, specifically the FC model. They have this photo with a caption underneath that reads:

Name:	87 BB Wanderldge Generator.jpg
Views:	619
Size:	111.4 KB
ID:	503

I have never come across anyone who has this option on an 87 - 89 FC. Is there anyone out there who does? I ask because of the slide-out on the Kholer genset. The space is so tight with the Onan and it would make life a lot easier if you could slide it out. Is this possible? Would having a good welder be of any use or is the Onan too complicated with its radiator impossible to slide out.

Bill, Randy, Dick, or anyone out there who has knowledge on this subject please let me know...

Thanks

Dan & Randy,

Bill & Rita have the slide out gennie,, We saw it at RATS.
Below is Bill's Sign off
Bigger gennie & slide out , then it seems with the space issue and only
two AC's, BB decided on the 8.0K Onan with the three cylinder Kubota.

Bill & Rita in Roanoke, VA
1987 FC-35SB ('87 factory demo)
Cat 3208ATAAC-300
12.5kw Kohler/Yanmar (w/slide)

Dan: I've never seen that brochure...possibly proposed but never produced?

Talk to some 'old timers' at Coachworks,

I used a Sears ATV jack to roll mine out, Bruce & Bill may have used pallet jacks. The unit weighs about 500#s and comes out pretty easy after removal of the 4 bolts in the subframe. Drain coolant, disconnect exhaust hangar, fuel lines, DC connector plug, AC connection at Radiator blower, coolant lines (inlet & outlet) remove coolant expansion tank, front trim skirt, battery. Was able to roll mine out without removing exhaust pipe or muffler!

If YOU can swing the front radiator open on your 87FC, you can slide your Onan out...I've got faith in your abilities!

That space is a little tight for fabrication of a slide-out DKD Onan, but maybe some other unit could be adapted...I would rather have the 'Quite One'. Maybe CoachWorks will redesign the Onan installation on 87-89 FCs for us.

I saw Bill's photos of the Onan Generator insulation project. Is there a Message # with a writeup of the project?

Considering this project for the fall or spring.

I got this from our old Yahoo site under files. This is Bill Pape's writeup.

Default Spoke with BB Coachworks

I spoke with Glenn Rogers at Coachworks today. I e-mailed him the picture and he is going to find out if they have any prints or any information on the slide-out genset.

I will try to contact Bill with the 1987 35 FC demo model. Is he a member of this forum?

I will also post what I come up with...
