Default What is a fair number of hours?

I dropped the coach for service and to fix a leak from a camshaft (top right front).

They fixed the leak
Pulled both front wheels check brakes and S-cams
Checked rear brakes (didn’t pull wheels)
Changed oil
Serviced transmission

What is a fair number of hours for each task?

Here is picture of Jose who has been working on Detroit’s for last 30 years. And, he has had that primer pump for 30 years!

Shahin,, I found in my bird ownership, that if I can FIND someone to work on a bird, then I don't worry about how many hours. These guys are a dying breed, like us old floor guys

Thank you for the good advice Earnie! I always pay what is asked anyway, but was just wondering what does it take in time?

Shahin, there is no book rate for old stuff. It doesn't come apart as easily, problems due to age and use et.c. are too variable. Take it from a guy with a collector automobile shop - jobs can run as long as they run to get the old machine going to a certain standard, hopefully as good as it can be. The alternative is all-out restoration. In the case of your WB40, a comprehensive frame-off restoration would be near the cost of a new Prevost. This is something we have to remind customers of frequently....

Thanks Chip,

The maintenance stuff if fairly routine. The only repair items was the leak out of the one of the pulleys which was accessible by just removing two belts and the oil filter. And, you are correct the seal was rusted in there so it took some doing to open it up. Like I mentioned to Earnie, I’m good with it either way, was just wondering what others are experiencing.

Thank you,

I believe they charge $115/hr. I’ll wait to see how many hours! I understand you work on these machines. How many hours would it take you to do the “good” work?
