Default The Ultimate Musical Horn

Looking through the past and present threads I did find any of them that addressed the current issues I am having so I decided to address it in a New Thread. Let me know if this is the correct direction.

Our 2001 has the single black PMMI box with built-in amplifier. My horn has slowed down as if it is not getting sufficient power (kind of sounds like playing a 33-1/3 speed record at about 1/2 speed). Any ideas on what the power output to the horn should be? I did checked the input and it is 13.8 volts and the out put to the horn is approximately 6.5 volts.

Identification on the horn only says University PA60.

Also how do I identify the amplifier on the circuit board?

Lastly is the panic alarm in anyway connected to the Ultimate horn?

Panic is not connected to the PMMI as far as I know. The rest of that PMMI stuff is voodoo magic. Only thing I know for sure is don't let the smoke out.

I've thought about this a little while researching buses. I've wondered if the brains couldn't be replaced with something like a raspberry pi or audrino type device.

That pretty well describes what they sound like to me when one speaker goes bad.

Agree with John.

Amazon has these horns which work well and are reasonable.

I wonder if you could "hack" one of these and change the audio files from sirens to songs. It does have an aux input so you could connect an external source.

https://www.amazon.com/LAMPHUS-Sound...VHBWEK99G95WQA

Then you would have a PA as well!

Who's the hacker?

John,
Near as I can tell I only have one horn but I'll look again. Woops found the other one on the drivers side. I'll see what I can do to get to it tomorrow.

That looks really promising with the stereo input actually. I saw in another thread a while back where someone had an idea of an ipod I think it was as the memory device to play the song to an amp then the speaker. This has amp and speaker but probably normal audio inputs not like USB integrated or something along those lines.

Would love to get up on running with the musical horn

My LX does not have the musical horn and never did. I was looking at something like the above to add one. I like the PA feature as well. I would not install it unless I could hack the police sirens out of it. Too much temptation and some in blue may not think it's funny, and with good reason.

If I ever get bored, I may order one and dissect it.
Maybe the audio generator could be replaced with something like this:

I have one of the older units that requires a separate amplifier. I got it working last year but now it seems to be dying (the 2 channels will play out of sync, then die altogether).

Really, just about any audio source with RCA or headphone outputs should work, its just a matter of finding something where the driver would not have to take his/her eyes off the road. I've been trying to find a player that has preset buttons on the front (i.e. press button 1, song #1 plays, press button 5 - song #5 plays). Have yet to find anything like that though. I've Googled my brains out and found nothing.

I have an old cheap mp3 player, that I can use to test my theory. Will share the results when I do.
