Default Diagnostic port

I've dug around a bit, but I see nothing in the documentation and I don't feel like buying scanners blindly until I get lucky and it seems like ive found several connections so.....

Does anyone know protocol for the diagnostic ports (seems like J1939?) as well as the locations on a 1995 BMC 37' ?

Thanks.

bmc 37 have diagnostic ports? The engine is mechanical. Will the Tranny have a port?

The BMC has an Allison trans port on the left side of dash just below knee level, at least it is on mine...

Anything engine related? Seems like I've found a couple potential connections in the exterior electrical compartment, but at a few hundred a pop I don't even know what protocol they use anyway.

Does having a trans code scanner give more info than the shifter codes anyway?

There is nothing as per say engine related as the engine is mechanical, no puters as such!!!
There are Allison power modules and the EMC in the cabinet outside the drivers window...
You could try a horrible freight OBD scanner, I have not, I've had An Allison shop check out mine, with no error codes...

Don't have J1939 connector, mine looks to like an OBD connector...

Thats the old GM style connector. Used on DDEC 1 & 2 also.
I have an adapter for my Prolink for those.

Later used the round german connectors...

So does anyone know what does or doesn't work on our engines? The gauges sweep on startup, so even if the engine is mechanical, seems like a computer is involved somewhere.

My recent trans controller issue has left me wanting to keep a better eye on things.

Your engine is mechanical unless a huge change with a later model 8.3 was made. I don't think the 8.3 was wire controlled until 96 or so. Your gauges sweeping cant have anything to do with the engine unless a change from factory has been made.
