Default Headlight/Taillight Lens Restoration

For now I’ve run out of things to fix on my 99LXi so I thought I’d try one of those headlight/taillight restoration kits. I dropped into my local Auto Zone and found five different kits….3M, Turtle Wax, Blue Coral, Rain something or other and Mequiars. I’ve had good results with other Mequiar products so went with their PLASTX clear lens polish for $8. I bought a new buffing wheel for $4 and went to town on the taillights. I couldn’t be happier. They have come out looking brand new. I went on to the headlights on my Honda toad and my buddies yellow SOB headlights. Amazing…my Honda came up brilliantly but by far the best result was my buddies 7 year old headlights which were the worst and now look new. Most of the complete kits I checked out (like 3M at $25) had a limited amount of rubbing compound and a warning label stating that the job may take more than one kit YIKES. This is what promoted me to put my own kit together. Most discount tools will have a selection of polishing/buffing wheels. I recommend a hard fabric buffer and always use a cordless drill. Watch the speed and pressure. Now lights in really bad condition you may need the more expensive kits which involve varying degrees of sand paper and polishing compound.

Rob,
If you have run out of things to fix, you are not being creative enouth. You oboviously need to allocate more time with Randy Dupree or John Finn. If its all working according to plan, its time to re-engineer or update what the BB engineers thought were right at the time. You need to be progressive ( not politically) and proactive in creating the best/finest/newest/cleverest/ or whatever adjective you want to use. As for me, I'm still fixing what does not work right and will continue to do that before I am allowed onto the hallowed path suggested above. If nothing aint broke, you are in rare air.

I shouldn't have said......"I've run out of things to fix". What I should have said was....."I've run out of things I can fix". Especially electronic stuff. You know, the smoke in the box stuff.

Toothpaste should work too.
I use it to clean the lens on my scuba diving mask

I just thought of another thing you can use.
It's called Bon Ami, and it's a cleaner with a very mild abrasive like toothpaste and it's also used to clean the lens on a scuba diving mask.

Hey Randy, Think the bar keeper's friend would come over and help me on my Bird? Minimum wage and all the coffee they can drink!
