I suppose it's relevant if one has experienced a fire.

Default Lost my bird to norcold

Got a call no one wants to get...my coach was on fire. These things are so tough it contained the fire and you cant really tell from outside that the inside is gutted and the neighbors house was spared. Had no idea about the recall untill the insurance investigator made me aware. According to norcold my model is recalled but not my serial number. But it sounds like they are expecting to settle with my insurance. I will never get enought to replace my coach and never find one as clean and everything working and updated as mine. With that being said as soon as i can figure out how to list it, i have a new 15kw genny head that fits a perkins or yanmar engine that i recently purchased to update mine but havn't installed yet.

Sorry to hear this Steve. Had exact same thing happen on an 85PT 40 9 years ago. You are right-inside gutted but everything under the floor and engine compartment was good-testament to all that steel. Glad to hear insurance is going to pony up. May be too early to consider but if you are inclined to replace it with another mid 80's PT and have the space may want to consider keeping the carcass for parts. Mine has been a good parts source and ins.company was more than glad to not have a tow bill.

If you have the time to disassemble here are a few high dollar items I'd grab:

Radiator
Trans Cooler
Hydraulic Pump
Engine Battery Door
Gen tray with engine
All that aluminum plating on the roof if it didn't melt and the awning hardware.

A BIG pipe wrench on the big nut of whats left of the steering wheel can be used to turn the beast. You'll have to cage the brakes.
