Started engine. Not usual quick fire, but its been sitting and got her going after few tries. Ran 30 seconds then shut down. DDEC II gave codes 16 (coolant sensor-hi volt), 43 (low coolant level), 46 (low battery voltage), and 87 (not sure).
Reviewed threads on related subjects. Pulled coolant sensor and tested. Seems fine, i.e. get continuity when in water & nothing out. Good voltage to hot. Also checked voltage to coolant module. Cleaned contacts. Got voltage & seems to recognize when sensor in coolant or not (voltage changes). Question 1: Does someone know way to fully test all functions of that module before I replace it. WW Williams wants $100 for new one. Found few cheaper on-line. Its DD #2350564. Question 2: Is there something else I should check in light of code 46? I assume not--think its just result of shut-down due to coolant issue. However, Bluebird has been in storage not plugged in to shore power b/c garage as GFIs, but been disconnecting house batteries (which are new), and charging both banks frequently. And tried restarting with full charge on both banks, but no go. Also...both fuel filters replaced recently, and Racor is full, so doubt its a fuel problem. Anyone with ideas beside call mechanic? Thanks, Bill

On DDEC fire trucks, there are some fuses that make the ECM work. I think if you search WOG you can find several threads about them. The fuses are near the batteries on fire trucks.
Remove the fuel filters and make sure they are full. Remember, cranking speed is everything on a big diesel. Rick in Ohio

Bill, is W.W. Williams wanting $100.00 for a new ECM or is that just for one module?
If its $100.00 for a new ECM, I want to get one.

That price is only for the coolant module. Ron the Bus Nut had one for $28.

Did you check the coolant level if it's been sitting. That will shut it down.

Hi Bill,
You should get this from the files section: http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.co...es/DDEC_TS.pdf It goes though all the codes and fixes... I dont see an 87 code in the book, are you sure thats what it was flashing? HTH, Joe

Rick: Checked schematics and poked around by batteries. Can't find any fuses related to the ECM. Tested about 15 fuses in front lower compartment related to engine functions. All seem to be in good order.
Kip: Coolant levels are OK. Above sight glass. Drained it all out to clean sight glass & remove / test coolant sensor, which was OK. Then replaced all fluids. Joe: Might have been 78. I'll check tomorrow again when get back to the Bird. Downloaded manual. Very helpful. Ordered new coolant module. Hope that's all it is. Will update when I get it installed. Thanks, Bill

My DDEC circuit breakers are mounted beside/behind the Racor fuel filter. Two of the circuit breakers feed 12 volts directly to the DDEC II and one feeds 12 volts to the DDEC II via the ignition circuit.

have u checked the fuel filters, see if there is fuel in them? Was it an engine shut down or did it run out of fuel?
