Default Drums needed 1987 pt 40

I am having breaks installed on a 1987 PT 40

The mechanic noticed stress cracks in the break drum and recomends replacement.

Is there an after market for these parts?

Marty

Read this thread. You only need one notched drum on the driver's side, I think. The other can be unnotched or a lot easier and cheaper to find.

Fleet Pride did not have the notched drums years ago. Ensure you have a notched drum or you will not have a speedometer or cruise control. If unable to find a notched drum there are options.

Do a site google search; John Hall had brake drums install last August. I found 6 for him at a local Fleet Pride but he only need 4 I think. You only need 1 notched, an the rest can be plain.

If the cracks are very small it may be ok to run. If it big enough for your fingernail to fit in then very likely to big. At least what I have been told. The notched drum is for your speedometer and cruise control to work, I believe. And only on one wheel. Not sure why it got 4. May have been because thats what they had on hand or keeping things the same.

Take a notched one off your tag axle and place it on the road side axle and replace it with a smooth one.

Back on the road! This would not of happen without your help.

However We were unable to locate a notched drum locally.

Swapping drums off the tag is our next task.

I was in getting tires when he informed me of the condition of drums and Breaks
So getting bus out For the weekend and out of his bay was a priority .

He also replaced all air bags while we were in for tires
Repaired a few air leaks

Highly recommended:
Shrader tire and oil

Matt

Thank you again
I am looking forward to meeting all of you at upcoming B.B. events.
