Tell Us Where You're At As you travel around the country, why not take the time to tell our members where you have settled for the night, week, or month. There may be another member close by, that would like to meet you, so put that information right here.

Fred at 65-70 mph most of us square FC owners would be at 2600-2800 rpm. The cat is definitely capable of those speeds (and more!) but I think most of us try to keep it under 2500 rpm for longevity. Your tachometer may be off. I know mine likes to jump a lot. Maybe you have some other variable changed like a different tire size or gear ratio?

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure its all downhill from MA to FL so maybe that's what you've got going for you.

Fred, do you know what gear ratio you have ? At 65 mph my CAT turns at 2300rpm, 70mph is at 2600rpm I think.

Don't know the rear end ratio. It is running 315 tires. Averaged 7 mpg yesterday and day before towing the jeep @ 65-68 mph. Tach is rock steady, no jumping.
Stayed @ Pecan Park RV Park last night in Jacksonville. Newer park, level sites, full hookups, only negatives are a lot of air traffic until mid evening and pricier than others we have stayed at. seems like a lot of long term here.

Landed @ Lake Whippoorwill KOA in Orlando yesterday. Here until Sat AM. Great trip down from Boston. Nice campground here, gravel sites, pretty tight , but quiet and met some nice folks so far. Too bad campground has been sold and turning into condos in April. Sad to hear about Clearwater being cancelled. Was going to be our first rally and was really looking forward to meeting other members to put faces to all the helpful names on the site. Oh well, there is still next Oct.

I'm glad your trip is working out relatively smoothly Fred. I bought that bus from a two bus owner in Texas. The seller, Alan, let me know a year later that his newer Wanderlodge had taken in water through the exhaust and other places during a storm. The bus was totaled. At the same time he expressed his dismay for selling the '87.

As my wife and I start the research and shopping process all over again, we now know the feeling of kicking one's self. Although your bus was far from perfect when we had it, it was nice to be comfortable with it.

I hope the bus continues to serve you well.

Fred there might be time to still make love birds if you're looking for a rally.

Thanks for the heads up Chris. We need to head back to Boston the beginning of March. Have to finish getting ready for the start of the lobster season.

Ok, home again jiggety jig !!
Had a great trip. 3140 miles, met some great WOG people in Arcadia and this old 87 FC is just plain Awsome. First long trip.
( FC’s do rule and if you don’t believe me just ask Critt Bliss )
Can’t wait for Pine Mountain in Oct.
ok, now for the questions.
1. Uphill grade, WOT only get 6-8 lbs of boost, 7-800 degrees exh temp , some black smoke. Normal ?
2. ZF trans doesn’t downshift on tough hills, with engine lugging down even if push shift buttons for lower gear.

Fred, on 95N in Rhode Island, around Wyoming, there is a 1 mile long grade where I routinely hit 1100f, fyi
