Default Improved BMC TV Reception - WOW

One of the few irritants about my BMC is that little non-raising mushroom type TV antenna that didn't do such a great job in picking up channels. (notice I said didn't ....past tense )

This week we stopped by Randy's on the way to Florida and while Randy was down in Gainesville, FL getting a good report on his knee, Rob Robinson and I removed the power antenna from Rob's burned out bus and put it on top of my BMC. Being able to raise that antenna the extra few feet really helps. It is hard to describe the difference in reception.

Who needs one of those stinking satellite systems when you have this thing?

Wow!

I was wondering about the TV reception on the BMC with the antenna just mounted on the roof. I just bought a Winegard RS2000 to replace the one that is there. What kind of antenna lift was the one from Rob's coach ?

Default BMC Antenna

Dan,

Since I met you at RATS and see you are a nice guy I wanted to let you know this post was a fake. We did not put a Wanderlodge antenna on my BMC. Steve Birtles was wanting to put Rob's old antenna on his BMC (which I'm not sure you can actually do because of the big fan and air conditioner in the way) so we were just pulling his chain a little making him think it was already taken.

However I have not been happy with my Antennacraft HD 360 so I will be anxious to hear about how well your Winegard works.

Lee, The original antenna on our SP was shot. We replaced it with Jensen Omni Directional. Very happy with the result. While at RATS we were able to pull in between 14 to 17 off air channels. The reception was very good. Although it is about 12" in diameter it does a good job. Everything needed is in the kit to include amp, cable and switches.

Jensen ANHD12vKit Got it off Ebay. 64.95 plus 8.99 ship.

It might be spring before I will know how the Winegard works on the BMC. I have the same one on the FC and I know it works quite a bit better when raised. I was thinking I may be able to fashion an antenna lift using an electric car window regulator (not that I need more projects)

Default Jenson Antenna

Rick,

Since someone already commented on how much better their antenna works when raised up and for me that is not an option, how do you think that Jenson will work if mounted as that typical BMC mushroom?

Maybe try yours sometime before you raise it and let me know if there is much difference.

thanks

I actually have a Honda CRV electric window regulator (works fine) that it turned out I did not need (problem was the switch not the regulator) but that seems a little big to rig up there somehow. I would be curious to know how one would do that to raise an antenna and also not have it look like something on top of the Clampetts bus? And weatherproof it as well?

Lee, It works well even down. Just better when up. With the Goat Rails it will block some of the signal.
