Default 82FC35 power steering pump rebuild or new?

I just pulled off my power steering pump with the idea of rebuilding it. The fliud constantly leaks out of the vent on top of the reservior so I thought maybe the pump was cavitating and causing the fluid the foam up. After removing the pump I discovered the whole bearing on the front of the pump spins in the casting when I turn the shaft. I'm not sure whether I should try rebuilding or look for another one. If I decide to replace it do we have a supplier to get new or rebuilt pumps. The one I removed is an Eaton 3500D.

John, I found your post Identify The Appropriate Steering Pump. Does that list include what is supposed to be on my 82 FC 35? Mine says Eaton on it but the only number is 3500D.

Give these guys a call:

http://www.pss1.com/

Power Steering Specialists - near Columbus, Ohio

A couple of months back a guy was taking an FC home after purchase, and had the PS pump go bad. Luckily he was only a few miles from PSS and they got him fixed up and on the way. He is a WOG mamber, maybe he will see this and relate his experience with them.

My dash air didn't work on my FC35 so I moved the reservoir to the pad on the top left front of the 3208 CAT motor. This will help eliminate the five feet of horizontal run the oil has to navigate to the pump. My pump is alot quieter now.

I rebuilt my pump, very easy. A few new gaskets, new outer bearing and two new plain bearings internally, done. My total cost was less than $50

Rebuilding is definitely an option, but if the bearing is spinning in the casting you may have to resort to the same trick you did with the Facet fan hub....Locktite Green !

Ordered my rebuild kit today. PSS referred me to Fleet Products a local vendor. Bearing and seals with shipping +-$90. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got this 45 degree fitting from BAB power steering in Calif. to replace the stock 1/2" 90. The 45 is 3/4" inside, I replaced the fitting at the res. and ran new 3/4" suction hose.
