Default 3208 to dt466?

Been looking at repower options to get rid of the gutless wonder in my 78 fc I found the international dt466 to be 7.6 liter inline 6 with inline ppump and they are quite capable of good power numbers and are fully rebuild able with sleeves unlike the 3208 I have even seen sum with liquid to air inter coolers on the manifold and the dimensions I've found they r shorter narrower and 1/2" taller then the 3208 has anyone researched this option before"

6V92 or a 8.3 Cummins. On the other hand a 3208 set @ 300 hp will do nicely, particularly if a 4.10 rear gear was part of the mix, 31' would be pretty strong set up like that. Not a bolt in but much more so than the other options.

1 I dislike cat motors more then nearly any Diesel engine 2 the 6v92 I do truely like but the height is so much taller the mods to fit it are quite considerable and they are quite thirsty beast 3 I do like cummins but the 8.3 is just way to long it's not a bad motor at all I had considered taking a 5.9 out to a 6.7 but I want a sleeved block design ant the 466 seems the best choice from dimension, power, and long term service stand point

We were talking about a 466 swap during my recent visit with the Dupree's. Thought I don't know much about the motor they certainly seem to be in lots of similar weight vehicles.

4.11 UNLESS you trailer. I have those and am trying to slow my rig down. With a trailer, trailer tires, and the heat here in AZ 60 is about the recommended max speed.

ps.. Mike, you have a PM.

To my knowledge its just international dt466 diesel turbo 466cu in or 7.6l there are various models dt466e being electronic there's newer versions that are emissions compliant they used them in class b wreckers trucks and tons of busses I have noticed alot of sled pullers seem to like them so I have to research builds but should be easy to adapt to the 643 trans I need to find its power limitation aswell

643 Trans is limited to 250 hp (officially).

I know some guys push more through them.

dt466 would be a good engine, but gearing in rear end would have to change to accomodate the powerband of the dt466 vs. 3208 cat.
