Default 84 FC Kohler-Perkins questions

Last week the generator died while we were driving the bird. We very rarely drive while running the generator, but we did that time and it died.
When we arrived to our camping destination, I tried to start it and it was turning, but not starting.

We ended up finding that there was air in the system and we followed the procedure to bleed it out. The generator started and ran fine that evening.

Since we are boondocking all week, I am running the generator an hour or two at night to recharge batteries as needed. The second day it started no problem, but since then, every time I want to start the genny, I have to slide it out and either prime it a few times or use starter fluid to get it going.

Seems like it won't start by itself like it always used to.

Any ideas what this can be?

thanks
JF

Fuel level in tank, age of fuel filters, weak fuel pump.... could be the culprit. Once you get the Perkins primed, there usually aren't issues.

Mine did the same thing. It was my mechanical lift pump, it was leaking fuel and sucking air. Had to bleed it to start it. New fuel pump was about $50.00 shipped. Hopefully something simple.

The fuel level is about 1/3 or so, but it has never been a problem to start and run with sometimes only 1/4 tank. I should probably change the fuel filter first. Then I will check the lift pump. It is like it is losing it's priming between uses.

thanks
