Default Stud Remover, for 13/16" studs on Budd wheels

The inner studs on our Budd Wheels sometimes snap off. Removing the broken stud can be a real problem without one of these. Think I might start carrying one and some spare studs.

i carry one of those in my coach.
Its for taking off the inner nut when the head pops off.
I et you can buy one cheaper from your tire shop.
Almost all good service trucks have one on board.
Having extra nuts and studs is a great idea,lefts and rights.

Default Spuds

Hello:

I had to resort to welding the regular nuts onto the broken spuds. The heat shock seemed to have helped also. I hate this design. I do keep a full set of left and right spuds with me at all times. Very expensive if you have to buy them from a jobber. Also, make sure you know exactly which spuds your coach takes as the spuds come is several length sizes as well as thread directions.

Poor design has both internal and external threads on a highly stressed part. The theads act as stress concentrators and result in cracks being propogated. Present day commercial systems are far better.

Rich, great point. My PO had installed studs that were too short and we had a near diaster in Nashville. I stopped to walk the dogs in a rest stop and had only 3 studs left on driver drive tires. The mechanic found short studs and they had broken between Knoxville and Nashville. He found the other wheels to be correct size. I now carry studs, you don't leave home without them. It took Parliment 2 weeks to get them to Nashville.
