How about just replacing the gas strut with one of these:

Press a button and up it goes! Havent done any research on them to see if the lift and weight would work out...

looks like the lift for the antenna mechanism.

Been watching this thread closely hoping Woody will do something simple enough that even I could copy it, but time is getting short for me and my engine cover is broke. What I have is one of the corner shock attachment for one of the shocks has broken and no longer attached to the door the shock is fine and working, has anyone got a solid but quick fix for this problem?

Hope I am not hijacking this thread, if I should start a new one let me know.

Drill through the door and use Carrier bolts to bolt the bracket on.

Thanks for the reply Randy I always appreciate your help! I have been waiting for someone else to ask this question so I don't look like a total fool but nooooo...they either all know what a carrier bolt is or to afraid to ask, so uh duh uh um I've googled search McMaster Carr, grainger, even called the best hardware store in Portland so I wouldn't have to ask this question ( are you laughing yet) they told me to ask you so, just what is a carrier bolt?

Try looking up carriage bolt.

I glued mine back on with silkaflex. It has been stuck for a couple years. I was going to use carrier bolts, but decided to try the silkaflex before drilling holes through the engine door. So far so good.
