Default Ron

Ron I used the jumper because of the problem you describe. I would loose my signal from ignition box with issues of front and rear ignition relay. My charging issue is gone. Possible the way mine may be wired. Thanks

The problem BB had was not using a good voltage source for the regulator. They used a lead from the ignition switch that has a lot of other loads on it, i.e. not clean voltage. A few years ago the fix was to install a relay using the ignition input to power the relay coil and get good voltage to be switched to the regulator from a nearby positive post.

Later regulators included and integral electronic switch so the relay was not needed. Using the jumper from battery to ignition terminals on the regulator puts you right back to the original poor design, UNLESS your source is already through a regulator.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I'd not use the jumper and run a clean voltage source to the battery terminal on the regulator.
Ron, what is the function of the Bosch relay in the remote start electrical box labeled "REGULATOR"

This seems like an important troubleshooting and solution scenario for quite a few of us. I'll be happy to put together a diagram if someone wants to send me a summary of how we got to this point. Some of us noobs need pictures

Dang, BB made it even more complex. Answer: Dunno. Time to hit the drawings.

Here are the DelcoRemy wiring diagrams.

Well, the system won't let me as they are too big to upload and I don't know how to resize them.

You can probably find the diagrams online: Instruction Sheet 10503992 and 1050994

Anyone wishing a remanufactured unit can place an order now by contacting Micheal Catalano at Elreg. His information is

michael@elreg.com
Elreg Distributors Ltd
T. 1-800-387-4078 Ext 241

www.elreg.com

The part number for the remanufactured regulator is 402-7698 and the prices are $182.65 each or $160.73 each for 6 or more.
I called Michael right after this post and ordered part 402-7698 as listed above, and the price he charged me was $209 + $14 shipping. I received the "new" regulator today and was surprised to see they sold me a Delco D698 (19020403) which I could have bought from many sources and was not what I wanted since it did not have the Sense terminal. I hope this was a mix up and not intentional. The Part description on the invoice does state the part number is correct and the description is REG 12V 50DN 4Term OLD. The obsolete part that we need is a 5 terminal and I would think they know this. However, I will be installing this to see how it works out since I did consider this part as a possible replacement and I have a trip planned for this weekend. The Sense terminal really isn't needed in my application since my batteries are parked so close to the Alternator. I'll let you know how it goes.

Found this online.

DelcoRemy Voltage Regulator Retrofit Instructions #10503992

DelcoRemy Remote Sense Kit Instructions for HD Alternators #1051762

I don't know if it applies or not just passing it along.

Default Happy with the D698

I got the D698 that I received from ElReg (old Delco 19020403) installed today and I almost did a happy dance when I saw the Alt. gauge showing life. I may dial down on the voltage output a bit since it doesn't have the Sense terminal. I will still be contacting Michael to find out why I received such an old part number when I was expecting a direct replacement for the now obsolete 5 terminal regulator.
