Default DDEC I repair needed

Hello all!

I have an 88' WB with DDEC I problems. It throws code 53 which has locked it into 'limp home' mode. 35mph top speed.

I had a Detroit/Allison tech plug in and he told me he saw 51/53/57 also. He was told by Detroit the only option was a new motor/transmission as DDEC I's are not supported any more! There is less than 100k on this BB!!

I have scoured the internet and emailed/called 7 places so far with no luck.

Does anyone know of a repair place? Or worse case, someplace to get a conversion setup to retrofit a DDEC II in place of my I?

Thanks in advance!
J

Check with MTU about the ECM, I was enquiring about a replacement for mine just out of curiosity.

They did list it, was about $3500 CAD plus $1000 core.
My understanding is that if the PROM is pooched it may be an issue, I didn't take it any further than that.

I did find some info out in a Facebook DD group regarding the swap from DDEC1 to 2 but it wasn't clear and my questions in that group have not been answered.

FWIW, I did find the name of a site that apparantly has the needed PROM but getting the bin file for it could be a challenge.

Can't copy and paste with this tablet but

www.futurlec.com and scroll down to memory, I have not investigated this any more than what I have said

Had to do some digging. So the Detroit part number is R1227327 without the PROM.

Search that part number, I cannot copy/paste with this tablet but there is an ebay seller that seems to have them.

Arkansas Valley Diesel

Also I recall reading a thread here where I think the fellow had a similar problem and it turned out to be the TRS. You might want to check all contacts and connectors as well and use some contact cleaner.

That was me. I had the TRS Replaced and the DDEC I rebuilt. The DDEC to working condition cost $150.00. It’s been while and don’t remember his name but here’s the number. +1 (727) 504-5755

World ECM. 1 770 676 2973. I forgot all about them. The are in PA and like a 2 man company. I send them a ECM from a Geo Metro and they fixed it. Might be worth a call. The man himself picks up the phone. Hope it helps
