Default truck replacement

Ive owned my 92 dully since 02 and have decided its time to part ways, maybe. before that I have to find a replacement 1/2n ton Ford truck. Man what a pain. Dealing for a truck/car has changed in the last couple decades. Mileage is out the window on a used truck. How can anyone drive this many miles and hold down a job??? Prices are thru the roof on most anything nice. Cash is no longer king at dealerships as far as I can tell. How can you afford a 4 or 5 year old truck let alone a new one. I about to throw in the towel and buy another SUV.

Pick ups have changed a lot over the years. Public is using 1/2 ton trucks like they used big sedans back in the day. Now they want luxury pick ups. All those options do add up. You can still buy a basic truck but they are not as common as they used to be. I am guilty of the same thing. I bought a new truck a year ago and is fully loaded. I did buy it through one of the big box stores auto purchase program which did help on the price. Used trucks are also in big demand.

Next time your are at a stop light take a look at the vehicles there. I see trucks, SUVs and little econo cars. Not much in between. It is amazing how many miles are on a 2-4 year old vehicle sometimes.....

I did see if you ordered the big Ford diesel dually with everything it would be at 6 digits retail price!!

If you want the basic truck ask for the "farm package" or "work truck" model.

Went through this last year. Spent a good bit of time looking between Ga and Florida since I was traveling at the time. Everything was way more than I was willing to pay. We left numbers with the dealers and told them what we were looking for. About a month went by and I got a call from a dealer near by. I was looking for a 250/2500 diesel. I end up with a Diesel F350 Platinum with more miles than I wanted. It had been in an accident at some point and had done some towing. It was about $15K less than others we looked at. I opted for a 24 month / 24 miles warranty through Ford extended care. I normally wouldn't have done an extended warranty but with the money "saved" and higher miles I figured it was worth it.

Here is what I learned:
Ford cheaper than others. Sometimes by a lot for similar trucks
350/3500 cheaper than 250/2500.
Low miles drives price of trucks up a lot.
Hard to find a truck with options between bare and topped out.
It paid to wait and move fast. We were cash buyers and that helped. The truck we bought was just traded in and hadn't even been cleaned when we looked at it.

Welcome to 2019. Where for the cost of a used truck you can have one heck of a Bluebird!! Hardly seems right. Good luck on your search.
