Default Veggie oil powered 1997 BMC

Seattle to Rhode Island for $ 38.00 worth of diesel.

Not my cup of tea but I found it interesting.

I saw that BB on line as well. I have friends who have run their 7.3 diesels on a similar system for 270K + miles. On the other hand, I hear that veggie oil will not lubricate fuel injection pumps correctly (I do not know if this is true or not...MercedesSource says it improves lubrication of the pump..who knows).

The challenge is three fold:
1. Sourcing your veggie oil. This can be a challenge unless you have a good and inexpensive source. Plus gathering the oil takes a good amount of time, esp to gather enough to get a full tank of Veggie to give the range you want.
2. Processing the oil. There is water removal steps to do and filtering steps to do (think of it as similar to polishing your fuel).
3. Having a separate tank of true diesel for starting and shutting down your engine. Veggie oil is more viscous than #2 diesel and has to be heated to flow. A traditional method is to run coolant through the fuel tank to warm it enough to flow. Until then, you need to run diesel in the engine. The same issue on shutdown. Switch to #2 diesel long enough to purge the system of veggie oil before shutting the engine off. My friends system had an automatic sensor to control that...he'd walk away while the truck was locked and running and when the fuel system between the diesel tank and injectors was 100% diesel, it would shut off automatically.

But it smells great going by .

Default Value ?

I am not interested but . . .

If you planned on tearing out and throwing away all of the veggie stuff, how good a value is a 83,000 mile, 1997 40' BMC, for $43,000.00 ?

I ran my old Ford 6.9 on straight veggie oil for many years and thousands of miles . My truck loved it .
I would not run my coach on it . It was messy due to the veggie oil building up on everything . I can't imagine what the inside of my fuel tank looked like .

There was a fella on my old forum from Louisiana- by Steve, that made all this bio-diesel and used it in his bus. Old age makes me forget his name

I also made Bio back when fuel was $5 and oil was easy to get. Made well over 3000 gallons 50 gallons at a time.
Cost was around 80 cents a gallon and Bio is a direct replacement for Diesel. No exreta equipment needed on the vehicle.

Dangerous Chemicals involved! Can you say Methoxide!

Bio IS NOT VEGIE OIL! whole different animal.

A previous owner of this bird spent the night in front of our house about 6 years ago or so. He had his family with him on a cross country vacation without a toad. I met him parked behind a KFC as he was trying to get some used fryer oil. He designed the system and was trying to market it. His system had an oil warmer and several screens to filter out the chunks. It did smell like french frys when he departed
