Default Thinking of adding EGT and Transns. Temp Gauges...

Hi everyone!

We have an 81FC with Non-turbo engine. I am planning to add a combination Exhaust Gas Gauge and Transmission Temp Gauge:

https://www.egaugesplus.com/store/p2...ack_Bezel.html

I probably don't need EGT (non-turbo) but I figure every bit of operating data is useful... Trans Temp seems to me to be a valuable piece of info...

Anyway, my question is this: The EGT is offered in 1,800F and 900F degree versions. Is there a reason I need to measure up to 1,800F? What range of temps should I be looking for?

1800, two required, probe in exhaust pipe as close as possible to the cast manifold flange.

Default Thanks Mike!

Hi Mike!

I had never even considered TWO EGT gauges! Considering I have none now!!!

So, you think one sensor as close as possible to the Cast Manifold and one in the tailpipe... I'll need a LONG sensor lead for the latter...

Default Which EGT is more important?

If I went with just one EGT, which would be preferred? At the Manifold or at the tailpipe? I won't go into all the boring and unnecessary detail about why I can do only one -- the other could be perhaps added later....

I think Mike was saying one EGT probe for the right manifold and one EGT probe for the left manifold installed in the exhaust pipes as close to the manifold to exhaust pipe connection.
Just my guess.

turbo mixes the heat out of the engine

non turbo requires 2 sensors in the manifolds to get the data you want

trans temp on the return pipe is what you Need!

Remember, you said "I figure every bit of operating data is useful..." :-D

So now you're up to FOUR gauges. You asked!! :-)

I'd really think you'd just _need_ one temp gauge, and it would be going into the line going INTO the cooler. You (I would, anyway) want to know what the temp of the trans and trans oil is, not what it gets cooled to.

Default Final-final...

I bought two gauges, each capable of displaying 2 temps. One will be a dual pyrometer (EGT) from manifold on each side. One will REPLACE current Water Temp gauge with dual Water and Transmission temp. I will get T-temp OUT from Transmission TO cooler. Gauges are from this company:

Come on back to Texas and we can put those in.
I’ve got a covered place for you to park and work now

The only stipulation is that you only let my wife hear good things about the trip to Alaska.
That’s on my “Bucket List” and I would like for her to go with me.

Max.
