Default Looking for a Wanderlodge - Probably an SP-36

Hey everyone,
So my wife and I are looking to get our first RV. When I was a kid my family had coaches which I loved, but have never owned my own. With that said, I've always been in love with Blue Birds and I'd like to find a good one for our first coach. I'm 38 & my wife is 40, and we'll be traveling with our two big dogs. We can spend about a month each summer, a few long weekends, and two or three full weeks per year & plan to do many runs from our home in Southern Maine down to Northeast Tennessee (where we're from).

I'd like to find something in very good condition that won't need too many updates. I know things will come up that need maintenance but would like to start with one in as good of shape as possible. I'm pretty convinced that we want a Pusher, and I like the thought of a shorter wheel base (thinking it might be easier for me to maneuver). So the SP-36 sounds like a good fit, but open to tips/thoughts/criticism or advice on handling a PT.
Also, we live in Kennebunkport, Maine and would love to get out and look at some 'Birds. Is anyone within a couple of hours from us that wouldn't mind letting us come see your coach?? I haven't looked into financing (if that's even an option for older coaches), but don't mind paying in cash if need be.

Are there any Wanderlodges (any kind) available for sale in the Northeast? Or does someone have or know of an SP-36 in great condition somewhere on the Eastern side of the country?

Thanks!
Steven

Welcome...

Check out the sp36 in the link below. Well known member here, in fact I bought his prior coach (FC) a few years ago, and I am happy with it, so I can vouch for him. Good honest seller.

Thanks Marc! I've been chatting with Brian, he does seem like a good guy from our conversations. We might fly out next month to see the coach if it's still available then.

If you aren't afraid of the 3208 (and you shouldn't be!) Don't count out a FC- especially with the 300hp/zf. The front engine is not noisy or warm as you would imagine with a properly insulated doghouse. Randy has a couple nice ones floating around right now.

If you want an early FC with a big HP engine and a 6 speed Allison and a retarder and a new diesel generator and new air bags and all kinds of other stuff i can fix you up.
CAC,big new rad twin beds etc.
Not cheap as far as early birds go,but half the price of a new diesel pickup!

Being where you are from, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a marine shop to work on the engine, if needed.

Song Bird (1995 BMC - 35 foot) is up for sale at $49K.
I've only seen it on the Wanderlodge Owners Group on Facebook though. Look for Ed Badeau or Leah Dippold's post.

Thanks for all the input! We could consider an FC, maybe we should go look at one... just have my heart set on a pusher, but should consider all of our options s for a first coach.
I have a bunch of friends in the marine industry (I'm actually a yacht designer), so I'm hopeful to have some trusted friends with some advice as I figure out how to fix things.
A BMC is definitely worth considering. Seems like a good powerplant and construction.

Matthew, just sent you a PM. Would love to get together!
Thanks everyone for the thoughts... very excited about starting this chapter in our lives!

Steve,
We have an 87FCSB ( also not for sale ) and are just North of Boston. You are welcome to a tour of it as well. There are so many options and just plain stuff on a Wanderlodge that you should look at as many of the different models as you can before making a decision. Send me a pm if you would like to come by.
