You can do it yourself if you purchase an swr meter . Most truck stops sell a small one . It's relatively easy to do .

Chris Henry should have one as do I . I have to tune my Ham radio antenna every time we set up camp . It only takes a few minutes .

I have one too. As long as the set screw on the antenna whip is free the whip can be adjusted and the SWR can be peaked. If the set screw is rusty, start soaking it with PB blaster etc.

This guy was great, no nonsense, did not try to sell me anything I did not need and gave me an education on CB's. He showed me how to check the CB and antenna SWR's.

Here is the guy I used:

I should have left my swr meter sitting out for when you stopped by!

Thanks everyone. We came on home. The CB tuning will have to wait for another adventure. :roll eyes:
We decided on this last trip we are going to move the new CB anyway. Going to switch it with the radio. This will put the CB above the drivers head and the radio down the dash so I can operate it from my seat. I use the CD player far more than I will use the CB.

Hubby is just confused because he gets NOTHING right now from the CB, except the weather. No static or anything. Even with it not tuned, shouldn't we hear at least something? This is all Greek to me.

That is what mine was doing, it was the final blown out. The final is the amplifier before the antenna. If the mic is keyed without the antenna connected it blows the final out. Check your antenna wiring really well before installing a new CB to it or better yet replace it all. If its disconnected anywhere it will blow out the final in the new radio if you key the mic.
