Art.
your plan sounds good.
Does anybody else have any ideas or improvements to Arts plan?
We would need a lawyer to draw up a contract,do we have one in the group?
Do we have a numbers guy that would want to be the treasurer?
Do we have somebody with trucks that can help move the records?
Do we have help to move the records out of the plant and into the trucks?

Thanks David
Thanks Art
I have $1000 for my buy in.

Question;does anyone really know whats on the Micro-fiche?
theres supposed to be a build sheet for each and every coach on that film, does that include wiring, plumbing drawings?
We may only need to buy the fiche.

Art, nice framework for the project. Thanks.

FWIW,

I have a couple questions and thoughts regarding the scope of all of this.

Earlier in the thread, it was mentioned the volume of the records could exceed a tractor trailer box.

How much of this is old business records (transactional stuff) and information that is not useful going forward? If the microfiche is all that is needed this would make a huge difference.

Is there a professional data storage conversion facility that services the region? Perhaps in Macon?

Law firms, medical practices, schools and the like hire companies to do this stuff and I suspect some are set up to do it all... transport, digitize, index, store and retrieve on demand. I suspect the pros are schooled, experienced and bonded to do this.

Like everything else, there are likely various tiers of service available to accommodate various needs.

Wonder if its possible in this short time frame to get a range estimate of what we are looking at for cost?

I may be interested in participating but would like to know more first.

NH Bill

If the group feels this is a needed project I am willing to contribute $1000. Seems like it's rather open ended. Meaning that we may be buying a lot more then we are interested in. That in and of itself is not a deal breaker. Seems to me we would want to first get the materials and then transport it to some location (as close to it's origin as is practical) then go through the stuff to determine what is of interest. That material would then be preserved by what ever means is felt best.

I envision a group of several of us sorting and stacking as a place to start.

Does this picture fit with what you other fellows see happening?

beware of the cost of a professional organization my wife's company pays about 1,000 per month just to archive records that is just invoices not over size paperwork (prints) it is $700 just to get the truck to come and pickup the bankers boxes they are contained in. Then there is the cost of an employee to actually scan the files
not trying to Burst anybody's bubble but research the costs entailed with this project
By the way I 'm in

This sounds like a very worth while project. Putting it together could be a challenge. If a group decides to go forward with this I would be in for $1000.

Stephen,

Your point is well taken. However, before we put the kibosh on a pro service, it may be worth getting an estimate first.

A little Googling produced this company that services Ft. Valley.

I would be happy to make some preliminary calls if you all would be interested in having me do it.

If it turns out to be too expensive, I have a Dell Precision Work Station with Dual Xenon P 4s I can donate to the cause.

I'm in for a grand.

I would have little idea what I am looking at in those files, but the smarter you boys are on my coach the better answers you will give me

Is our resident lawyer Tommy White Hat still traveling?
