Default blown air bag

Hello gang,
Well...here we are in a beautiful Flying J truck stop on the upper part of I-81 in PA. As we pulled in to use the dump station, we found the tag axle was not holding pressure. A closer inspection found the right tag axle air spring blew.
So, we're spending the night here. Got a good spot along the perimeter so I can work on it tomorrow. Fortunately we are about half way between Binghamton, NY and Scranton PA. There are Fleetpride locations in both cities. I'll pull the bags off tomorrow morning and go get them matched up. Since I'll be under there, I might as well replace both of them.

Has anyone ever done the tag axle air bags. Any tips or pointers. These definitely appear to be the easier of the 10 air bags on a PT.

Wish me luck!

Don,
About two years ago Jim Nichols replaced the passenger side tag axel air bag on mine. I bought two to do both sides and still have the other one sitting here if it helps you. I don't remember it being extremely difficult (of course Jim did all the work), we had to go buy one wrench, only because I don't have a good selection. In hind site it may have been easier to remove the tag tire. As usual Jim got pretty dirty under there. Thanks again Jim!

thanks for the offer Tom. If I can not find one I may need to take you up on your offer.

the part number I have for it is W01 358-9073
Probably a Firestone number. I've called the nearest Fleetpride locations. No good. I called Cook Brothers truck parts in Binghamton, they have one in their Elmira NY location. Once I get the old one off, I will verify the part number. Unless you can give me a call with it. thanks

9073 is the correct number for our '87.

Don-

I truly don't remember much about replacing Tom's airbag, especially because he had everything ready to go (or already underway) when I arrived. I do think that having a mirror that you can poke anywhere needed is a must as you will be aligning bolts with bolt holes you cannot see.

Sorry I can't give you more help.

Jim

Default update on blown air bag

All done and back on the road.

When we found the blown air bag Sunday night, we were in the Flying J truck stop on I-81 in PA. Spent the night there and found a replacement bag in Elmira NY the next morning. Had the old bag off in about 30 minutes. Drove to Elmira, picked up the new part and had it all back together by about 1PM.

But the best part is, we had a surprise visitor in our area. Mr Shane Fidelli came by for a visit. Had a nice relaxing dinner together and got back on the road the next morning.

All is well.

Yeah Randy, as luck would have it, Shane was working in the Wilkes Barre area so we got together for a nice dinner. Relaxed for a few in the coach afterward. Of course the discussion was mostly about BlueBirds all evening. Hadn't seen Shane since the Flywheelers rally in Florida. Nice evening with nice folk.

Shane..thanks for coming by.
