Default Weigh Station Rules

I read an article in RV Travel Newsletter that showed the rules for various states regarding weigh stations. There seems to be a bunch of states where by their definition RV's over 10K must stop.

http://rvtravel.com/?q=node/2133

http://rvtravel.com/?q=node/2134

I have never stopped for a weigh station and have never been stopped for passing one. Have you??

This particular definition is included in many of the states regulations.

passenger or specialty vehicles, whether single or in combination (towing a trailer) with GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or more

New Jersey is pretty plain:
NEW JERSEY
New Jersey requires all vehicles that weigh 10,001 lbs. or more to weigh.

Pennsylvania includes " large recreational vehicles"

Dwayne and I read that in the past couple of days too, and have the same question. We're wondering if we need to keep a list handy of the states that want us to enter the weigh station.

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission, especially if you are not from that State. Maybe it is assumed that everyone would understand it is for commercial vehicles. Every now and then our scales flash a sign that says all busses must report. But even though they are commercial vehicles it is understood that they do not generally need to pull in.

You folks that think you may need to stop, let the rest of us know what the Scale Master told you.

I have always understood it to be commercial vehicles as well, but Pennsylvania actually says Large RV's, and New Jersey says ALL. But as I have never had an issue, I will keep passing by with my fingers crossed

the only signs I have seen at weigh stations are commercial vehicles and all buses
nothing about rvs either large or small
And Iam a regular target at weigh stations

Can't say for other states but in California RV's are exempt. In this state, my BMC is classified as a "house car".

That has been discussed on WOG before;

Wanderlodge Owners Group > RV Lifestyle > Travel Tips - Fuel Prices > Weigh Stations do we have to stop at them?
