Default Kohler 12.5 KW No output

Hello!

I am working on a ‘79 FC with a Kohler 12.5KW generator powered by the Perkins Diesel engine. The engine starts right up and runs beautifully every time but it suddenly stopped putting out any power. Would anyone have any ideas on this? I have checked all the obvious things I am aware of... The transfer switch is set to Generator, I have flipped the breakers to make sure they weren’t tripped, checked all breakers in the closet. No go.

Does the engine stop or keep running? If it keeps running then the control box sees AC power, but not necessarily at the right voltage. If not then the generator is not putting out AC. Could be the regulator, brushes, or other component in the Kohler head.

If the fan runs then there is AC power as well, assuming it is the original type AC powered fan motor.

There should be a box with a double breaker in the gen compartment.

Above the first post there is a site search, google search , do one on' Perkins Kohler ', there are many threads on this symptom, Read through them for starters. There is lots of info. Also there are similar threads listed at the bottom of this forum page.

Thank you for the response. It does keep running, just no power and I did not notice a fan running. The coach belongs to my parents so I am not very familiar with it’s systems. I will do the search. Thanks.

Actually, as I recall, we tinkered with the generator last summer and it would not run at all. We poked around until we found a switch on near the back and when we flipped it, it did run. Is that some kind of override? Maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree.

I don't know of any 'override' switch, but some previous owner could have made modifications?

Ahhh,ok,now we are getting somewhere.
we need pics of this "switch".
I suspect (like Gardner) that you have a old problem.
Has the genny ever made power in your ownership?

Yes, it did make power but suddenly stopped doing that.

Does the fan run?

Try to get pic pf the 'SWITCH" you referred to

Look for circuit breaker box in the generator compartment, usually on the top of the left side wall of the gennie compartment

I found an invoice in my blue box from a shop in Alabama stating that they reengineered the safetys and fuel shut off solenoid so the Perkins would stay running seems like about $800.00 was not making power when I purchased the bus.

Fan not running. The switch looks like a little breaker button above the outside start switch. On inside wall is only an outlet.
