Randy:
I am cautiously optimistic that you nailed it! On the curb side of the gennie rear engine mount there is a cable to the base of the mount that I expected would be the issue. It wasn't, but the upper end of the cable where it attaches to the genny itself was not attached.
So, do I replace it with a similar cable or get a regular ground strap to bolt in there?
Thank you, all of WOG, for what the combined knowledge can do for us.

I normally make a longer one and put a loop in it so it can move a little,a coil or loop.
or,use welding cable, that stuff is more flexable.

I have some 4/0 welding cable and lugs to go with it. I think I will attach it to the street side front engine mount and put that loop in it. It makes a lot of sense. The factory cable was attached to the flywheel housing of the engine with allen head bolts. Seems like there would likely be more vibration right there. But it did last for 23 years, so I guess it's not a warranty issue.

Okay, an update. I made a replacement ground cable and installed it, cleaned the paint off where it would make contact. Pushed the starter switch and...NOTHING. So I rechecked everything I could think of then did the logical thing, called John W. He was kind enough and patient enough to walk me through some troubleshooting. In the control box on top of the blower housing, there is a breaker. The power wire feeding the top of the breaker was not making good contact, even though it was tight. I cleaned the stud and the crimp connector and the generator fired right up and ran flawlessly.
Thank you John, Randy, and everyone in WOG.

I had a similar situation on my M380 generator a few years back and it turned out to be the holder/housing that held the fuse on the generator was not making good contact.
