OKAY..Jake Brake install got started today. All the take/offs/adds are done other than the valve covers. Will do the final adjustments tomorrow and the fuel settings. Will set the Detent or Modulator (several words to describe the same) for performance, and rack adjustment for more Horse-Power. Hopefully should be good to go after this. I'm hoping the smoke is less than before,. The Jake components are new, not used or rebuilt. The fellow I purchased the Jakes from has many flavors of the Jakes, new, rebuilt, used for the 71/92s.

John, Thank you for taking care of the more. Completed the Jake Brake install this evening. Driveway testing appears to be good. This weekend I plan to run the 'Bird over to and up CA Cajon Pass, then down the pass for the final test.

Farmed it out. **** near hurt my back watching the guy lean in/over to complete the adjustment. I trust the mechanics (having good reputation) that done-it-before, and strong backs. I'm looking for riders for the first down-hill test. Any one care to join in?

Drove the bus up/down Cajon Pass this morning. The Jake Brake works great. Heading for home I crested the Cajon Pass in top gear and left it there. Used the service brakes 4 times in the first 6 miles going down the 6%+ grade. Kept the coach at 65 mph. The Jake is much better then the transmission retarder, and the trans. temps.are cooler too. With the retarder I'd need one lower gear and 10 to 15 mph slower and use the service brakes often.

The 8V92 had a little more power climbing the Pass, got another 5 mph. Valve and fuel adjusting made a difference.

$1,200.00, new with used valve covers (new cover gaskets). The Jake Brake was purchased from Butler Enterprises, Alpine, CA Vance Butler is the owner, retired, but works up to 90 hours a week...not my idea of retirement. He has used, rebuilt and new Jakes. 619 672-7009 cell. Give Vance a call and tell him Curt Sprenger referred you. He'll work you a great deal. I picked up the Jakes about two weeks ago, paid cash, the green stuff, no tax.

Vance has lots of Parts, acres of part, buildings full of parts, new and used. He was an Diesel engine rebuilder at one time and retired from that..and going strong.

There is a used set on Ebay, item #380139480870. Good price.
