Mark,

I think that is the block heater, heats the coolant, and should not leak.
110 volts

That is the block heater. I had the same one on my 78. It is a in line coolant heater. It is connected at the lowest point in the cooling system and it heats the coolant which circlulates via convection. I had to replace mine as the internal element failed. I had a switch at the co-pilots fet that turned it on. It it doesn't get hot, the outflow is on the upper hose, then it is shot.

I believe that this type of a Block heater can be purchased through NAPA.

On my 79, one of the metal pipes associated with this plumbing is leaking. Seems it chafed against the frame and got a pinhole. Drips when system is pressurized.

THANK YOU!!! I would not have guesses it was the block heater. Mine works the last time I used it. Just like John's picture!
I just am ID- ing everything I can as I put the engine back together.
I am finishing up the radiator then on to the dog house, seats and carpet, along with 2nd 4" air intake to air cleaner.

Default Check the top hose

Both of my FC's had a problem with the hose going into the top rotting out and leaking. The pipes I suspected were a problem were fine.
