If you are just moving from SD to HD then no, you likely will not notice the difference when shown 1080p vs 720p especially considering a lot of source material is broadcast in 720p or at best 1080i. But give yourself a few months, a year and then you'll start seeing the gaps in a 720p set, especially when watching a BluRay movie or something like that. Obviously, the closer you sit to it the more obvious it'll be. I notice it on edge enhancement and text. You get a tearing effect on quick moving images, just not as smooth as it is on a 1080p set, not even the older 3 generation ago stuff which is what I have (old Sony XBR4 46" 1080p in house vs new Panasonic 720p at 42" in coach). Basically I've been there, done that, and would not look into 720p sets again. Not considering the lower prices showing up on newer sets. It's become much more affordable in the last couple of years.

Like I said, variation in eyes. I've had HD for 61 months now, which I consider a bit more than a "few."
