Default Algae killer in tank.

I have just ordered some algae killer for our tank since she has been sitting for a bit down here in the tropics. I know we have to change the filters a few times after we do this. And no, there is no evidence of algae, but we don't want to be going down the road and it show it's ugly slimy head either so....

My question is should we also put the generator thru its paces once we shock the tank, to make sure it's clean too?
And if we do, I am assuming we have to change that filter too?

I would leave the genny off until you cycle the filters on the 3208 a few times, if you need to. If you don't have algae then you don't need to change any of the filters.

I have worked on and owned diesels and lived in Fl for 40 years and i have never shocked a fuel system.
No way i would do that on your coach,no telling what worms you will find.

What harm will it do? Serious question.

It may do just what its made to do,release all of the crud inside the tank.
Once its released then you have to filter it,and it may take forever to get it clean.
If the seaweed stays stuck to the tank walls, you don't have to filter it.

I may be totally wrong, but why start trouble?

Read Shanes thread on slime in the fuel, and how long it took to clean it up.
Read Finns thread on flushing his rad and the problems that caused.

Does an engine oil flushing oil also pertain to this?

In Canada algae in diesel fuel is unheard of. The -40 kills it good in the winter.

All I know is he has a 2 1/2 ton military truck at his shop that has a serious algae problem in its tank right now. It runs for about 10 minutes then comes to a literal crawl. There is water in that tank and as a result of our lovely hotter than H@#L weather and high humidity with never any freezing temps, algae loves us. Our local farmers have this issue as well. It's usually more of a marine engine issue, but has shown up in land vehicles as well. Since he had this issue, it got me thinking about our bus, wondering what might be lurking in that big ole tank, and what problems it may cause for us when we least expect it. We may not "shock" the tank but we will definitely put in a little as treatment/prevention, just like I do our water system, even though I will never drink from it. Still don't want to shower or wash my dishes in that crud. I have to keep the bus full of Damp Rid tubs that fill up and have to be changed about every 3-4 months due to humidity.

I so can't wait to leave this god forsaken place.

I have not had Algae issues, but shock is a shocking word.
Maybe treat it a slow death. Keep it full and use it, this is the best treatment.
Read the Adventures of Algae Boy; I witnessed the spinach looking sea weed.
Pretty scary.

If you have easy access into the top of the tank maybe just pull the level sender and stick your phone down in there with the light on and camera going and see what's in there. Might want to use an Apple product just in case it slips
