Craig,

Yes, there has been wiring service by the Denver CAT dealer after the Perkins quit starting.
The dash was removed for speedometer service. The genset start switch my have been disturbed then ??
Thanks for your question. Now you have me thinking more clearly, Jim

Just wondering with the changes that were made does the switch look like this?

This switch is a momentary switch on left and right and run is its center position. It does not stay in left or right except when being pressed.

My coach had three switches and they are or have more connections on the back than a single switch arrangement would have...(three way switches)

For you to have used a screw driver to jumper the solenoid you would have needed to have a second person holding down the start side of the switch? Is this all correct?

Thank you Les for your reply.

Yes, my switches resemble the image you sent. They have eight lugs on the back side.

I can start the Perkins by moving the rocker switch to the center "RUN" lighted position and jumpering the solenoid with a screwdriver. However, if the switches are in the "stop" (off, No light) and I jumper the solenoid, the Perkins just turns over and does not start.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think we're making progress. Thanks, Jim

I think your switch is sticky, its a momentary switch,it should return to the middle position.

Randy,

Yes the switch returns to the center position when released. It stays lighted until the switch is depressed to the stop position.

What do you mean, "sticky" ?

Thanks, Jim

The start switch provides ground to the coil of the C relay. The C relay energizes the S relay (the starter relay) and that engages the starter. Once 110 is generated it picks the CR relay which turns on the 'RUN" light and disables the C relay so you can't engage the starter with the engine running. The CR relay has a 110 volt coil and is not activated with 12 volts. The CR relay is a three pole double throw unit, big clear plastic relay in the control box.

So if the run light comes on without the gennie running, something is wired wrong.

But, assuming nothing has been changed wiring wise since the failure, and all was fine before, the erroneous run light may not be associated with the issue. Check if the C relay picks when you flip the start switch on the gennie control box first.

Notice the fuse in the control box diagram.
