When it sits for a long time it needs something to keep it up.
It's more like 1.5 years old. I should get a trickle charger. I have two electronic chargers. The first one did not see it. Guess because it was so flat. Second said SULF and I figured that sulfated. So I gave a shot with a bigger, fresh battery and then the first charger started charging. It was late so I will finish it tomorrow hopefully.

Default Did a little SMAC and wore out a grease gun

Did a little SMAC (shielded metal arc welding) to my bumper brackets. One broke off a long time ago when I first got the bus. Still on the welding learning curve, but I'm satisfied with the results - metal melted and fused together.

Greased the driveline. That was thirsty - I don't think they got the grease gun in a very long time. The U-joints all needed about 5 pumps (high volume setting) to make that characteristic U-joint is greased sound. I don't think the slip joint in front of the retarder has ever seen grease. Took a lot of pumps before I saw some from the relief. The Zerk on the retarder was caked up but good, I think it's been a long time for that puppy too.

All in furtherance of making it up to Ludington on Wednesday!

Default Fingers Crossed!

Took Terrapin to the shop today (Road Runner in St. Louis). Used them to get an inspection a month ago. When they saw the bus all the guys at the shop were drooling. They love it. Major win on the cool factor. They told me they don't work on RVs but they would do some of the things I needed done if I bring it back.

Today I took them some new and adjusted KONIs to put on, inspect the brakes, change wheel hub oil and make the caster adjustment. Said it's all doable and at $130/hr it should not be too painful to my wallet. But it all depends on the Brakes. If the bill is not too high, I will have them change the Allison fluid and filters and Diff fluid. We go full time in January so it's all got to get done.

Fingers crossed these guys can take care of my Terrapin!

Well the barn door and all. That battery is toast. It was a cheap one, over a year old so no warranty. I have a a battery keeper for the next one. I was looking. Last year the guy who took my old battery and sold me this one. It's a hair too big all the way around. Strap would not fit. Anyone know the nomenclature for the original battery? I buy a new one and set it up right, I want it to fit in the spot right. I might take this battery down to the shop who sold it to me anyway so they can so 'no'. Nothing to loose.

I had to make a run down the road today. Stopped at Buc-ee's in Florence, SC. Gosh, that's a huge place.

Had to replace batteries in engine bay last night. Moved the bus to the barn and smelled like bad sewer gas smell and it was really bad in at the rear of the bus. (Not normal) opened the rear hatch to see one of the engine batteries spewing acid/hydrogen vapor out the battery vent. Got a big fan to ventelate before i started to disconnect the batteries incase of sparks and hydrogen gas. Had to hose the bay down to make shure there was no acid anywhere. Today Ihanged oil/filters in engine and generator also got motivated and rebuilt the AD9 air drier.
I will need a week at work to recover! The air drier was no fun and did not want to cooperate going back in place.
