Default Traveling the high country

I was reviewing my travels the other day and realized that I have crossed the continental divide 6 times in 2 months traveling to shows.

The first one headed to Denver was on I80 in Wyoming. Then from Denver to Grand Junction over I70. That's an exciting drive up to11,000 feet and back down the other side! Then we crossed the divide on 550 northwest of Albuquerque 3 times. Grand Junction to Albuquerque ( with a stop to visit Dennis & Debbie ), Albuquerque to Moab, then Moab to Amarillo. The last time was a couple of days ago on I40 headed to Lake Havasu where I am getting ready for a show this weekend. It's been a fun time traveling the high country and now I'm in the desert for the winter.

Kev, No doubt you are proving how stout the Blue Birds is , but why don't you come on over here to the flat lands of Fla with all those rocks you drag around, and spend the winter with us Flat Landers . I'm thinking you can do a little gem show right here in Daytona Beach during the 500, and Bike week .

Kevin:

You cross the Continental Divide twice each time you travel across Wyoming.

Wow! You're right. I thought in order to start from the west side of the divide and end up on the west side of the divide I would need to cross an even number of times. But, I double checked my trusty atlas and Wyoming has this small anomaly called the Great Divide Basin from which rivers flow neither east nor west meaning you have to cross the divide both coming and going. So I get to add another crossing making a total of 7 crossings without paying any more on my fuel bill!

Well Fla is a long way from Az and it's hard to give up the show circuit we've already built up in the west. Also I have to be in Tucson in February to do my buying at the largest gem and mineral show in the world! You'll just have to come back out to Quartzsite so you and I can be the last ones hanging at the fire again. We missed you this last year!

Sorry to have missed you. Not that we'd have had a lot of time to visit but it would have been nice to say hi.
