This question came up some time ago..."can the Trans. Retarder and the Jake Brake be operational at the same time. I have not tried both, yet...but will the next time out. The two are independent. Will be an interesting test. I'll watch the trans. temp. gauges to see if they get up to the usual retarder only temps. I'm thinking the temps. will be less. Might be too much brake on the down hills.

Default S-60 Jake Brake Troubleshooting

Any of you S-60 guys have Jakes that don't work well? Or do they pitch you up against the glass when set on high?

There was a problem in the 95's that called for disabling Relay 23B or 26B I don't recall exactly, I do know mine is disconnected. Anyone have more info on this?

I've been told that if their working you'll know it. Mine aren't working. She will down shift but it's not that big a diffrence, and the other settings, Med. & Low have no noticable affect. I get basicly the same results if I down shift with the keypad. Need some help here.

I can tell mine's working on all 3 settings, but I am going to get the preselect changed from 4th to 5th. It's MUCH nicer.

John,

David Brady and I think Slim Sommerville did the same and they like it.

Hey this makes 300 posts!

I drove an 01 a couple of weeks ago that seemed to have the engine tweaked and the Jake set to 5th. It was a nice bird, just high on price. It really drove sweet. The fuel mileage would be **** for a while, until I learned to stay out of the fun pedal.

Followup to Braking with the Retarder and Jake...Around town the retarder adds nothing (that I could tell) while the Jake is active. The Jake cuts out at approx. 1,000 rpm. The Retarder remains active until just before stopping so the retarder does add to the braking at and below 1,000 rpms.
