Just remember there is only one stupid question that is the one never asked. Those that thought you were being smart did it only to hide their ignorance. I would be willing to bet that once you started questioning about SCA you could see several folks either taking notes are trying to find out what you knew. When I was teaching (auto) never claimed to be all knowing. I could point the student in the right direction to find the answer.

Check out the newer coolants with OAT technology. Coolants with SCAs have came a long way since the early 90s. Coolants such as Rotella's Diesel Ready were prone to the SCAs coming out of suspension and settling to the bottom of the system, often causing a brand new set of problems. OAT technology coolants keep the SCAs in suspension better and have a much longer life. Be advised that cooling system top-offs are to be made with only other OAT coolants (even tap water is considered a contaminant), and your local parts store won't likely have this product on the shelf.
