Not sure, but I'd guess there wasn't enough pressure in the return line to make it leak, when we ran it. We only had it spooling at 1,000, rpms.
When you drove it the increased rpms may have built up pressure when you took your foot off of the throttle, say at 2,800, or so.

I drove it 350 miles to Pa. and back for the generator repair. I got up the courage and looked for any signs of a leak. It is so dry it is scarry. I can't even smell diesel.
