Default Racor Filter

What micron filter should I be using in my racor filter/water sererator? I have always used a tan top fiter which I understand to be a two micron filter
which plugs fairly quick. My secondary always appears to be clean when I change it. my filter is a NAPA 3799.
thanks

Re

Scroll down on this page several other threads on racor's, good info.
If yours plugs up quickly it sounds like an ALGE problem buy lots of filters and get some fuel additive to kill alge. Ask Shane about his experence with alge.

Since "curing" my Algae problem, I get about 5,000 miles on a 2-micron filter before it gets well-into the yellow on the Racor gauge. The secondary, spin-on, gets changed at each oil change (10K miles) and always seems pretty clean. I'd recommend stocking up on the filters and starting a regular treatment of Bio-Bor or Killem to prevent algae from continuing to grow in your tank and clog the filters.

Curt I in my 1985 PT40 I use a Racor 2040PM (WIX 33797)(30 micron) in my Racor 900FG filter and a Wix 33120 (10 micron)for my primary filter. Has worked fine.

Default Racor 2 micron

Thanks guys , Its mostly rust and grit plugging the filter,I knew the secondary was around 6-10 micron, so I figured the primary should be a larger micron, i was plugging the primary and the secondary was always like new. I just used what the previous owner used.
When i readin the 692 book it sad primary around 26 and secondary 6-8,
anyway i use a DD secondary.
Thanks again
