It is interesting that when I did a general Google search for "Detroit Diesel 8V92 coolant recommendation" that this thread was the #1 search result.

Default Name that Part

On the street side of my Detroit 8V92 engine is a canister. It is about 8 inches in diameter and 15 inches tall. It has a one inch chrome cap and the canister also has a dip stick on the top.

I am trying to determine what type of oil (if any) is supposed to be installed.

I think you're talking about the hydraulic reservoir which is 10-30 motor oil. I believe BB called for Havolin. Some one will confirm this.

I confirm what the Heckman says...10W30 motor oil in the PS/hydraulic fan reservoir.
