Question ecu/tcu part calibration needed

I need a ecu/tcu calibration code off of a 37 bmc

I have found a dealer to reprogram my conversion ecu/tcu and they want 1 like i need to make this a correct shifting unit..

has anyone ever changed the transmission computer or can look at there bus computer and give the numbers that are on this computer ?

I know that a 37 bmc has the same gears as my sp and i am using the same engine so this is what i need so they dont have to reinvent the wheel!

many thanks !!!!!!! leaving sat to go to Randys to get this project done!

Hi Woody: Have you tried searching the Yahoo Diesel Rv forum?

Try this link.

Good luck on the retrofit.

dick

this is a BMC calibration only..every coach have a different calibration to meet the builder spec,

they can give me a generic set up but them after i install i have to go pay another 3-700 bux for iSSCAN ran on the coach at a ALLISON DEALER to get it perfect~

if i had the correct numbers--then it is done when i pay them the first time

I understand. Since your donor unit came from a Fire Truck, can you have the Allison dealer give you the full specs on the transmission...including the torque convertor stall speed? That unit sounds like a good match for the SP motorhome. Just being cautious, call several Allison techs and look for problems prior to doing the swap. Woody, if you get the BMC calibration numbers, dyno test the Cummins/Allison setup prior to installation...may save some trouble.

Woody aren't you going to have another problem? I suppose the fire engine is a front wheel drive and your SP is a rear wheel drive. Won't the output of the tranny be turning the wrong way for the rear end?

i'll reply for woody.
the fire truck was wrecked in the rear, woody drove the truck before pulling the engine.
the tranny was setup to run 4 speeds, when its a 6 speed tranny.
woody wants to reprogram it for 6 speeds, thats why he needs the computer numbers off an BMC tranny.
its all about programing, but the dealer has about a million different things to consider,so having a baseline (BMC) is good (cheaper).

Tom,the engines all run the same way,the SP and the PTs rearends are turned upside down,to make sure they go the right way.

They do something similar in the Formula Vee race cars to make them a mid engine configuration for better handling, by flipping the ring and pinion in the transaxle, I had it like that in my old race car, using an air cooled VW engine and transaxle.

Thats why I asked the question Randy/John that I knew the output of the engine was the same however the output of the transmission was reversed between a pusher and a forward control such as a fire engine. In that case its necessary to reverse the gears in the rear end to correct the rotation difference.

If you flip the rear end upside down the shock hangers and other hangers for air lines etc will now be on the bottom of the rear end assembly. Do you have to then cut them off and reweld them in the correct positions?

I have a feeling there is only one person that can give you the information that you need for the BMC and that is Ray Horne. The several times I talked to him when I was looking for parts for my 1982 FC35 he would haul out an old computer printer sheet and show me all of the information from the day it was made until the last time it was at Ft vally for service. He still works in the area and if you can find him he might still have that information for it always appeared to me to be his. Just a thought.
