Is the 39MT the gear reduction replacement?

Is "Right Hand" rotation clockwise or counterclockwise?

I don't know that, but the guys at G&M can cross that number to a gear reduction stater.
A left hand stater will be for a reverse rotation boat motor maybe?
Did they make a left hand diesel?

According to Delco website 8200308 39MT is the correct replacement for the 195830 that my engine came with.
Thanks for the conversion.
But,to all of you guys out there wanting to change your starter, the mounting plate is "clockable".
It can go on in many different positions.
A direct part number conversion like Randy S posted may have the right "clocking".
But maybe not,i don't know.
The mounting plate will have about 6 or so allen bolts holding it on,make sure your new starter has the same clocking as the old.

By rotating the mount plate,i would say yes.
Unless something has changed that i don't know about.
I have rotated many mount plates in the past.

You have to be careful to match the number of teeth, however. There were some 12 tooth versions out there for late model S60's I believe. Almost all are 11 teeth (my 6v, for example). 8200308 is 11 teeth and works on my 6v.

Good catch: Just to sum up the info provided in a great thread

Any 12v, CW, 11T, 39MT will work if you rotate the mount plate.

Seems this starter fits a bunch of engines from Cummins and Detroit.

8/71 Detroit in my 4106 GM bus with V-drive uses a CCW starter. Hard to find in 12 volt and impossible while on the road so I carry one with me. If the starter needs changed, you are in trouble. Access from in the bedroom if you have no way to get the bus on ramps or jack the back end up. Either way you are going to get dirty and say bad words before it is all over with!

Result is muffed starter, cause is one or several of several things
using weak batteries, defective starter, computer drops out, cable and connections voltage drops.
