Exclamation Series 60 Charge Air Cooler (Intercooler) Part Number Needed

Paul Lazar is at the Prevost New Service Center near Nashville, TN having a checkup done on his 1997 43' Wide Body 'Bird and one of the things that they found was the Charge Air Cooler (Intercooler) for his Detroit Series 60 engine has a leak, it is currently at a radiator shop where they are ATTEMPTING to repair it, but according to Paul they didn't sound very optimistic about it lasting.

So if any body can help him with the part number for this item he has no access to the Internet, but you can contact him on his Cel phone at 301-346-8389

Paul said that there may be other models and years 'Birds that will use this same part.

John,
Have Paul call 517-322-4092 W.W.Williams -Detroit Diesel in Lansing Michigan. Ask to speak to Roy in Service or Rick in parts. With locations in numerous area's around the country they can help get you the part number/and a location that could overnight it to him. Tell them I said to call and to give him the good guy priceing. I'm not saying they will be the cheapest but they can help give him a hand and get him at least part numbers etc. . Hope this helps. Be it known I am not paid commission for sales I am just doing this to help a fellow member.

Hello Randy and Paul

I just talked to Dick Warner about your issue, CAC he had his replaced few months ago. he will be calling back with info about the supplier and I think that he paid less than $1000.00.
I will call you when Dick gets me the information. Stay cool in Nashville.

Default after cooler is epoxie

I had to replace my after coooler because it had a leak. This cools the air to the turbo charger. I don't know what an inter cooler is, but if it is built like the after cooler, then it most likely can not be fixed. I HAD A NEW fabricated for half what Blue Bird wanted.

You have to be extremely careful when replacing charge air coolers, turbo chargers etc on the electronic engines of bluebirds. I talked to Paul about this via telephone today. For example there are two intercoolers listed for the Bluebird LXI with the series 60 engine. The numbers do not make any sense at all to me and I doubt they did to Paul either. He checked the chassis serial number (CSN) on his coach and I believe it was 75948
The information I have for the intercooler is from the Bluebird Database is:

Engine Cooling
W4RE
DD series 60
Feature 40190-01
Ending With CSN 10052364
Part # 0010501 (intercooler only)

Engine Cooling
W4RE
DD series 60
Feature 40190-1
Beginning with CSN 10052365
0010501 Ending with CSN 10068409 (intercooler only)
0033876 Beginning with CSN 10068050 (intercooler only)

Appears there are 2 different intercoolers none of which fall within pauls CSN . With Bluebird out of business this may prove difficult. I would be very careful about taking someone elses intercooler part number unless it somehow cross referenced to these part numbers and CSNs.

All I can say is WOW! Your response to my quandary has been amazing.

It's too late this evening to give you the final report, but thanks to Steve Seroga (not sure of spelling) via Dick Warren via Hisham, I now have the manufacturer and part number for my CAC. Steve had his replaced this past January and he got the LAST new one BB had.

I suspect the same company made many model year's CACs.

Quality Stamping and Tube. 262-677-5100 Ask for Jerry.

Part Number: 10-524CA This is for the 97 CAC. They also made the radiators for BB and can supply both as the original stack.

Tom Warner: Make sure you add this as a source, and thanks for the assistance.

Stephen: Your call was a very pleasant surprise and also shows that distance has no bearing on a person's willingness to help.

Hish: Thank you once again, you were the key to putting this last piece of the puzzle in place.

Thanks again Steve (a soon to be member here).

As always, I didn't think about pictures until the stack was out, but did uncover a possible danger warning for those with 97's and perhaps earlier models. Will upload pics and info when I get home.
