No Those are not the seals for the rear cover drain plugs.
They are bottom seals for oil, as used in some 3208 applications.
The holes in our 3208's are not open but these O ring are still replaced

I can not find the write up on this Forum, although it is here someplace.
Here is the link, I filed on the Ernie Forum, several years ago.
In removing the rear cover & replacing the throttle rod seal, Also accessable are the drain plug seals and those in your picture

Gardner... I read this post, after I responded to your email. It looks like you have found the leak. If your Cat dealer is far away, a good Pump Shop should have that gasket.
Let me know if you need help!

Gardner,

Her is a picture of the 3208 injection pump.

The two O Ring seals, that can be replaced from the rear cover, with out removing the pump. They are located on the left side bottom of the picture. You would be fortunate, if this was the mystery leak.

I have not ruled out a rebuilt pump for the following reasons:

I don't know why an O ring or gasket would fail suddenly. I may find out when removing the rear cover, but then again, maybe not.

If one gasket or O ring failed, how long before others do the same, while I am far away from home.

My governor has never worked correctly. It shuts fuel off at around 2700 rpm, but doesn't restore it till close to 2300 or 2400 rpm. So I have to coast from about 66 mph down to around 60 before it comes back. So I spend a lot of time coasting when I hit the governor, which is not a safe thing should I need address a blowout. How long before that starts to get worse?

The on-line cost I found so far is around $848. Not cheap, but better than an on-the-road fix.

I am going up tomorrow to look under the solenoid for fuel, if that chamber is full I think I need to go for a rebuilt.

The is a seller on Ebay by the name "dieselcare" that has rebuilt 3208 pumps for $895 with FREE shipping. I don't know what shipping would be but probably not cheap. They say it comes set for 215 hp but I would imagine they could set it up for the 225 or 250. They are out of Memphis. One year warranty.

NO, not e-bay. It is a legitimite outfit that I have heard are OK. And it is for a 250 HP like mine. Free return shipping on core, 30 days to return. Actually is $878, and a $28 manditory installation kit which I don't know what is included. Free ground shipping.

Gardner,

I forgot about this site, It also has the easy install guide.

http://www.mwfi.com/Cat_Tech_art/fuelPumpAssembely.htm

We used this as a Tech Session handout at a RAT'S Rally a few years ago.

We had this instruction sheet, a gear pulley, Finn's spare Injection pump, and "The Woody Factor".
All attendees became "Pump Experts" even the PT Owners

Finn would not give permission for the hands on Disassembly Lab Experiment.
